Hills District Historical Society Museum

The Hills District Historical Society Museum contains dozens of interesting displays giving a window into the history of the Baulkham Hills Shire. Many of the displays have been created with memorabilia generously donated by residents.

Transportation was a vital element for the farmer. The citrus and stone fruit crops were initially carried by horse and cart, then a steam-driven light rail system and finally trucks, from the farm into Parramatta and on to the city markets. These eras are illustrated with many photographs, along with a display of woodworking tools which give an insight into the skills of the practical man on the farm.

Nearby is a school room complete with desks, blackboard and spelling readers.

An elegant dining room with the table set for the evening meal gives the feeling dinner is about to be served. Around the corner is a bedroom complete with wearing apparel from the intimate to a wedding gown.

The world wars are illustrated with service records, uniforms and medals of local men and women who served our nation.

A research room is filled with reference books to assist anyone who wishes to add to his or her knowledge of the area.

The museum is located in the grounds of the Powerhouse Museum on the corner of Showground and Windsor Roads and is open on the second Saturday of the month 10am to 4pm.
